In 2026, the United States marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Across Lackawanna County, communities, attractions, and organizations are celebrating with special events, exhibits, performances, and programs that honor our nation’s history while bringing people together.

What is America250?

America250 marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 2026. This nationwide commemoration reflects on the nation’s past, celebrates its present, and looks ahead to the future through events, storytelling, and community engagement.

In Pennsylvania—the birthplace of American independence—this milestone is being celebrated through statewide initiatives led by America250PA, with events taking place across the state and right here in Lackawanna County.

As part of Pennsylvania’s statewide celebration led by America250PA, these public art installations offer a unique way to experience America’s 250th anniversary. Lackawanna County is home to three of these commemorative bells.
