PECKVILLE CHRISTMAS HOUSE
A Christmas Tradition
Experience the magic of the Peckville Christmas House! For over three decades, the Peckville Christmas House in Peckville, PA, has dazzled visitors with one of the most beloved holiday light displays in Lackawanna County. From Thanksgiving through Russian Christmas (January 7th), guests can stroll or drive through a festive wonderland filled with thousands of twinkling lights, vintage blow molds, and timeless holiday cheer that captures the spirit of the season for families near and far.
A Family Christmas Tradition for Over 30 Years
What started as a small neighborhood display in the 1990s has grown into one of Northeastern Pennsylvania’s most spectacular holiday attractions. Inspired by their childhood memories of driving around to see Christmas lights, brothers Matt, Jeff, and James Harhut began setting up their own festive showcase in Peckville, PA, featuring just 100 vintage blow molds. Over the years, their passion project expanded as the family rescued and repurposed classic decorations, transforming their adjoining properties into a glowing holiday destination.
Today, the Peckville Christmas House features more than 200,000 lights and 3,000 blow molds, creating a nostalgic and enchanting experience for visitors from near and far. The tradition is truly a family effort, with James serving as chief electrician, and his wife, Mindy, managing the popular Facebook page that keeps fans updated throughout the season, while the displays are hosted on Matt and Jeff’s neighboring properties.
The dazzling display gained national recognition in 2017 when it was featured on ABC’s The Great Christmas Light Fight. An incredible sight to behold, thousands of guests gather each year to enjoy the lights, savor hot chocolate and candy canes donated by local businesses, and celebrate the magic of Christmas in Lackawanna County.
What to Expect at the Display
The Peckville Christmas House is best known for its exceptional collection of vintage blow molds, each one lovingly restored and arranged by theme to create a dazzling holiday scene. Every year, the Harhut brothers travel to multiple states to discover new additions, expanding their one-of-a-kind display. Visitors will find lawns filled with cheerful penguins, snowmen, and classic Christmas characters, along with a beautifully lit nativity scene and an angel choir that glows the lawns with timeless charm.
Guests can walk through the display along a designated path, passing beneath sparkling light tunnels and glittering, light-covered trees, while candy canes and snowflakes decorate the homes’ exteriors. No matter where you look, the Peckville Christmas House shines with bright lights, festive spirit, and holiday magic that captivates visitors of all ages.
Dates, Times, and Admission
The Grand Lighting Ceremony takes place on Thanksgiving at 5:00 PM. The display remains lit from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Monday through Thursday, and from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, Friday through Sunday, until January 7th, which is Christmas according to the Russian calendar.
Admission is free; however, donations are welcome. Parking is available on Marion Street or the nearby Sacred Heart of Jesus parking lot.
Visitor Tips for an Enjoyable Experience
While you can drive around the display, it’s best experienced by taking the walking path. Weekdays are typically less crowded, offering a more peaceful stroll through the festive displays. Guests are encouraged to dress warmly and wear appropriate footwear, as the path may become muddy after rain.
