AGRITOURISM IN LACKAWANNA COUNTY

Experience Lackawanna County’s rich agricultural heritage by visiting a few of our agritourism destinations. Several farms are open to the public, allowing you to connect with nature while learning about local animals and crops in a hands-on and family-friendly way. You’ll leave with unforgettable memories and a deeper understanding of rural life, conservation, sustainability efforts, and perhaps a bag full of delicious produce or other farm-fresh treats.

Animal Encounters

Many of our animal attractions focus on education, conservation, and hands-on experiences. Animal lovers can book a tour at Indraloka Animal Sanctuary, where rescued farm animals live out their lives in a beautiful sanctuary that’s healing for animals and people alike. Indraloka also offers public tours and special events throughout the year, giving visitors more opportunities to connect with the animals. At Safari Farm Petting Zoo, you can learn about and interact with both domestic and exotic species, including zebras and kangaroos.

Northeast Pennsylvania Farms, Orchards, & Wineries

There are also plenty of opportunities to learn more about how food is grown and even pick your own produce while supporting local businesses. At our local farmers markets, such as the popular Co-Op Farmers Market in Scranton, you can connect with growers and enjoy the fresh, seasonal bounty of Lackawanna County. You can also visit working farms, orchards, and u-picks — including LaCoe’s Berry Farm, Pallman Farms, MudPond Farm, and Lakeland Orchard & Cidery — for seasonal experiences such as berry picking, flower cutting, and harvesting fresh vegetables and fruit, depending on the location and time of year.

Lakeland Orchard & Cidery also hosts lively seasonal festivals from spring through fall, bursting with food, fun, and attractions. It’s also a wonderful place to pick berries and flowers in the summer, apples in the fall, and the perfect Christmas tree each December. In the fall, be sure to visit Roba Family Farms and enjoy children’s activities, a giant maze, pumpkin picking, and farm animals. At Ritter’s Cider Mill, learn how cider is pressed, take a scenic hayride, explore a hay barn, and feed farm animals.

Or if wine is what you’re in the mood for, the best way to experience Northeast Pennsylvania’s wineries is the Lackawanna County Wine Trail, featuring ten local wineries. Keep rolling with the rural vibes at stops on the trail like Maiolatesi Wine Cellars, Wood Winery, Ritter’s Winery & Cidery, or RiverView Winery, which is set in a charming barn alongside the Lackawanna River. Then head back into the city to sip your way along the rest of the trail.

Local Events

Be sure to keep an eye on our events page for additional farm and animal-related events. Many farms host fall festivals every September and October, and some transform into Christmas tree farms. From goat yoga to paint and sip workshops with alpacas, to storytime with farm animals, and even a Farm to Family Fest, there are many ways to interact with local farms and sanctuaries to celebrate agriculture through agritourism all across Lackawanna County.
