Small-Group Summer Walking Tours

Want to take a vacation in your hometown or learn fun facts to impress your guests? Join the Lackawanna Historical Society for our summer walking tours! These free guided tours provide local residents and visitors with a chance to learn more about Downtown Scranton’s magnificent architecture and learn more about the buildings and neighborhoods you pass every day.

As part of the Society’s efforts to broaden our outreach, we’re excited to announce a new partnership with students at Scranton Prep to translate our Courthouse Square tour into Spanish. Join us on Saturday, June 17 at 11 AM or Saturday, August 19 at 11 AM to learn Scranton’s early history, as well as the buildings and monuments that surround the Courthouse, many dedicated by immigrant groups. The tours will introduce newer residents to the city and create connections to build a stronger community.

Each tour focuses on a different thematic region of the city. Tours will spotlight the Gothic District and former “Clubhouse Row,” the Lackawanna Avenue Commercial district, the lower portion of the Hill Section, as well as Courthouse Square. Take a tour to kick off your First Friday celebrations in July or August, or join us on Saturday morning!

The full tour schedule is below:

• Saturday, June 3 at 11 AM: GOTHIC DISTRICT (meet at Lackawanna College - corner N. Washington & Vine)
• Saturday, June 17 at 11 AM: COURTHOUSE SQUARE (meet at corner N. Washington & Linden - tour in English and Spanish
• Friday, July 7 at 6 PM: COMMERCIAL AND "RED LIGHT" DISTRICT (meet at Radisson Lackawanna Station, 700 Lackawanna Ave)
• Saturday, July 22 at 11 AM: LOWER HILL SECTION (meet Elm Park Church - corner of Linden and Jefferson)
• Friday, Aug. 4 at 6 PM: GOTHIC DISTRICT (meet at Lackawanna College - corner N. Washington & Vine St)
• Saturday, Aug 19 at 11 AM: COURTHOUSE SQUARE (meet at corner N. Washington & Linden) - tour in English and Spanish
• Saturday, Sept 9 at 11 AM: LOWER HILL SECTION (meet Elm Park Church - corner of Linden and Jefferson)
