The Steamtown National Historic Site (NHS) Short Train Rides are returning for the 2024 season on Saturday, May 4th! The short train rides, which include the Scranton Limited, Nay Aug Limited, or Caboose Experience, will operate on Saturdays and Sundays as staffing permits. Beginning June 1st, the short train rides will operate on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays as staffing permits. Departure times are 10:30 AM, 11:30 AM, 1:15 PM, and 2:30 PM. All train rides are subject to cancellation due to mechanical issues, inclement weather, or crew availability.

Scranton Limited Train Ride: The Scranton Limited is a 3-mile round-trip train ride lasting approximately 30 minutes. The locomotive travels through Steamtown National Historic Site's rail yards, crosses the Lackawanna River, passes the historic Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel, and stops at the University of Scranton before returning to the Steamtown National Historic Site boarding area.

Nay Aug Limited: The Nay Aug Limited is a 5-mile round trip ride lasting approximately 45 minutes. The locomotive travels through the rail yards, crosses the Lackawanna River, passes the historic Radisson at Lackawanna Station Hotel, passes the University of Scranton, and briefly stops on the Nay Aug bridge before returning to the Steamtown boarding area.

Caboose Experience: The Caboose Experience is a short 15-20-minute ride in a historic caboose within the park boundaries. It gives visitors a chance to experience what life was like at the back of the train. This experience is included with the purchase of a Scranton Limited ticket.

Tickets are $6 for adults and kids over the age of 5 and $1 for kids 5 and under. Beginning Saturday, April 20th, a limited number of Short Train Ride Tickets will be able to be purchased online at Recreation.gov. Tickets may also be purchased on-site at the Information Kiosk on the day of your visit. All ticket sales will be credit card only. Tickets are valid all day and for ANY departure time on the date of purchase. Seating availability is first come, first served. Steamtown NHS recommends getting in line 15-20 minutes ahead of the scheduled departure time. Refunds will not be offered within 48 hours of the tour.

The Caboose Experience will be offered in lieu of the Scranton Limited on dates the Steamtown NHS offers longer excursion rides, as staffing permits. Train rides are subject to cancellation due to mechanical issues, inclement weather, or crew availability.

The train rides are seasonal and typically end in the Fall. For the most recent and updated information, please visit the Steamtown NHS website, contact (570) 445-1898, or e-mail stea_visitor_information@nps.gov.
