The Steamtown National Historic Site (NHS) Short Train Rides are returning for the 2023 season on Thursday, May 11th! Short train rides, which include the Scranton Limited or Caboose Experience, will operate Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, as staffing permits. Departure times are 10:30 AM, 11:30 AM, 1:15 PM, and 2:30 PM.

Scranton Limited Train Ride: The Scranton Limited is a 3-mile round-trip train ride lasting approximately 30 minutes. The locomotive travels through Steamtown National Historic Site's rail yards, crosses the Lackawanna River, passes the historic Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel, and stops at the University of Scranton before returning to the Steamtown National Historic Site boarding area.

Caboose Experience: The Caboose Experience is a short 15-20-minute ride in a historic caboose within the park boundaries. It gives visitors a chance to experience what life was like at the back of the train. This experience is included with the purchase of a Scranton Limited ticket.

Tickets are $6 for adults and kids over the age of 5 and $1 for kids 5 and under. Tickets for the short train rides, the Scranton Limited or Caboose Experience, will not be available for advance purchase online and must be purchased on-site at the Information Kiosk the day of your visit. All ticket sales will be credit card only. Tickets are valid all day on the date of purchase and may be used for multiple short train ride experiences. Seating availability is first come, first served. The Steamtown NHS recommends getting in line 15-20 minutes ahead of the scheduled departure time.

The Caboose Experience will be offered in lieu of the Scranton Limited on dates the Steamtown NHS offers longer excursion rides, as staffing permits. Train rides are subject to cancellation due to mechanical issues, inclement weather, or crew availability.

The train rides are seasonal and typically finish in the Fall. Please visit the Steamtown NHS website for the most recent and updated information.

Located in downtown Scranton, the Steamtown NHS is open daily from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Beginning Monday, April 24, 2023, Steamtown NHS will be open from daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. From Interstate-81 follow exit 185 (President Biden Expressway, formerly known as Central Scranton Expressway); then follow the brown and white signs to the park entrance at Lackawanna Avenue and Cliff Street (GPS: N 41.41, W 75.67). General park information is available by visiting the park website anytime.
