Each year, the Saint Ubaldo Society welcomes thousands of visitors to Jessup, Pennsylvania to celebrate one of the world’s oldest and most beloved traditions - la Festa dei Ceri.
Brought to the Jessup community in 1909, the Festa celebrates and honors the life and legacy of Sant’Ubaldo, patron saint of Gubbio, Italy.
The two mile Race of the Saints is a St. Ubaldo Day ritual comprised of three teams. The St. Ubaldo team is dressed in gold, the St. George team in blue and the St. Anthony team in black.
7AM: St. Ubaldo Band wakens Jessup.
7:30AM: Ceremony honoring past ceraioli, St. John's Cemetery, Jessup.
8:15AM: Ceremony honoring past ceraioli, St. Mary's Cemetery, Montdale.
10AM: Participants receive "Fiore" and organize for procession to Mass, St. Ubaldo Cultural Center.
10:30AM: Procession to St. Mary's Church, Third Avenue, Jessup.
11AM: St. Ubaldo Day Mass honoring St. Ubaldo, St. George and St. Anthony.
Noon: Alzata, or "Raising of the Saints," blessing and tossing of brocce, outside St. Mary's Church.
1PM: Luncheon buffet for ceraioli and participants, St. Ubaldo Cultural Center.
5PM: Procession with Most Holy Relic of St. Ubaldo, starts at Mylert Street and Grassy Island Avenue, ends at Powell Avenue and Ward Street.
5:30PM: "Corsa dei Ceri," starts at Powell Avenue and Ward Street.
8PM: Procession to return the saints and ceri to St. James Church. Socials for Family of St. Ubaldo, Jessup VFW; St. George, St. George's Restaurant; and St. Anthony, Pietro's Restaurant.
