With so many annual fall festivals and events, each offering a variety of activities for all ages, Lackawanna County is an enchanting autumn destination. From enjoying the crisp fall air while picking pumpkins to haunted attractions and wine festivals, when it comes to fun fall things to do, the county truly has its finger on the pulse of the season.
Fall Foliage
Among the area’s best fall activities is seeing the fall foliage in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Let the bright autumn colors top off your fall spirit on a Fall Foliage Train Excursion, or enjoy some breathtaking leaf-peeping on the self-guided Lackawanna County Fall Foliage Trail.
Festivals
Venture into the shadowy realms of the Wine, Witches, & Warlocks Festival or immerse yourself in the eerie energy of the local horror and punk scenes at NEPA Horror Fest, both hosted at the Circle Drive-In.
The Carbondalien Festival in downtown Carbondale celebrates the city’s fascinating UFO history and celebrates its contributions to UFO culture. The festival takes place on November 9 to pay homage to the strange occurrences that happened 50 years ago on November 9, 1974.
A cozy wine event in fall is hard to beat, and the Fall Wine Festival at Montage Mountain Resorts does not disappoint. Sip on delicious wines while celebrating the changing seasons at this always impressive autumn gathering.
Also at Montage Mountain Resorts, the Rhythm & Brews Fest is sure to bring out your love of autumn over adult beverages and live music.
Farms & Orchards
For one of the best pumpkin patches around, head to Roba Family Farms. Pick your favorite pumpkin, have a ball in the corn maze, and stroll the Glowing Pumpkin Trail, which consists of more than 25 scenes of carved pumpkins.
At the picturesque Lakeland Orchard & Cidery, celebrate fall by picking apples, hop aboard the Lakeland Express for a mile-long ride through the Halloween Light Show, and so much more. With 15 different attractions, you’re sure to find fun for the whole family.
Tombstone Tales
For a one-of-a-kind fall event that blends the historical with the ghostly, check out The Dearly Departed Players as they breathe life into the stories of the cemetery “residents” on the Dunmore Cemetery Tour.
Haunted Attractions
Immerse yourself in spooky vibes at Reaper’s Revenge Haunted Attraction near Scranton, PA. Experience a terrifyingly good time as you journey through five spine-chilling attractions. For a more family-friendly option, the kiddos can embark on a magical adventure through the forest on Lil Grim’s Family Fun Hayride.
Or, test your fate at Circle of Screams Haunted Attraction, America’s only haunted drive-in theater. Explore the eerie Delfino Manor hidden in the woods, then venture further along the spine-chilling Twisted Trails Haunt Walk. Finally, settle in for a horror film at the Circle Drive-In.
If you’re brave enough, embark on the Lackawanna County Haunted Trail, where you’ll encounter the spookiest and most haunted locations in the area.

Lackawanna County has no shortage of Halloween events revealing much of the region’s history of unnerving, paranormal happenings.
