Old Forge: Pizza Capital of the World

Old Forge has a category all its own because the wonderful Italian dishes are so unique most notably the pizza. Old Forge pizza is rectangular in shape and is called a tray, not a pie and the pieces are called cuts, not slices. This is traditionally red and white pizza with different variations of cheese blends. Each restaurant offers its own special version so it is always fun to stop into several different places so you are able to find your favorite. If you order a tray to-go they are generally boxed in a shirt box—a tradition from the mining days when miners would take their pizza for lunch.
