On Saturday, April 22, the Lackawanna Historical Society will host its 13th Annual Grand Civil War Ball at The Century Club, 612 Jefferson Ave, Scranton. Doors open at 7 p.m. and dancing begins at 8 p.m., with music by period dance band Spare Parts and prompting by Ball Preceptor Martha Griffin.
The Civil War Ball is an effort to recreate a period ball from the 1860s. Dancers will spend the evening participating in many of the dances that were popular during the time of the Civil War. Period dress and dress blues or grays are greatly admired, but not required. Modern formalwear is acceptable. Tickets are $35 per person or $60 per couple; the ball does not include dinner and tickets are non-refundable but can be purchased at the door. A dance workshop will be held at 1 p.m. at The Century Club for those who wish to learn or review the dances before the ball. Tickets for the workshop are $10 per person or $15 per couple.
